We love to get new visitors and inhabitants! Averøy is an international community where newcomers are widely welcomed. There are many different job opportunities, both on the island and the nearby cities of Kristiansund N and Molde.Averøy municipality local authority is in charge of the daily operation of day care centers, primary schools, health care and welfare services, environment and planning, culture and administration.

We are responsible for the overall development of the municipality, including land-use planning, street care and cleaning, housing, improvements and repairs, industrial areas, agricultural areas, culture and environment.

Day care centers/kindergarden
Averøy Municipality's main aim is to provide day care to all applicants who apply within the deadline of the main admission. In Averøy there are 3 public day care centers and 5 private day care centers.

Local education
The local authority is responsible for the compulsory schooling. In Averøy there are four public primary schools and one private. Children aged 6 - 13 goes to primary school (1 - 7th grade), and youth between the age of 14 - 16 attends lower secondary school (8 - 10th grade). There is 1 lower secondary school for all pupils in Averøy, which is located in Bruhagen. The nearby cities of Kristiansund and Molde offers higher education (upper secondary schools and university colleges) for students who wish to commute from Averøy.

Norwegian language course
Averøy municipality, in collaboration with Kristiansund municipality, can offer introductory course in Norwegian. The location for this course is in the nearby city of Kristiansund. For information and signing, please contact the administration on the number below.

Health center for children/ youth
The health center for children can assist with any question you might have about health issues concerning your child. The health center also offers assistance to young people, and you are welcome to visit us or contact us. Our location is in Bruhagen, 'Helsehuset', Ground floor (same building/ floor as the Library).

Home care for seniors
Citizens in need of assistance can contact our Home Care Center. They will offer advice and assistance. They can also determine what services you are entitled to, like physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychiatric nursing care.

In the local library you can borrow books, films, music and magazines for free. The library also offers free public WiFi/internet access. The library is located in the local council, ground floor, Bruhagen. You can use our online library services to search for any resources by following this link.

Music-/art school
Averøy School of Music and Performing Arts offers classes in music, dance and visual arts to children and young people in Averøy. For information about classes, instruments and locations, call our Service Center or the contact person below.

Work, welfare and social benefits
The Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV) can offer help and advice when looking for work, and is responsible for social benefits. You will find information on their homepage. The local office for NAV is located in Bruhagen, ABC-Senteret.
